Icy Temperatures in the Deep South

I woke up this morning before daylight to just barley make out our Palmetto Palm tree bent over with ice.

As the sun came up one could make out what anywhere else would be considered a winter wonderland.

However, because these plants are not accustomed to such harsh weather conditions it is a sad sight to behold.

Warmer days are just around the corner though. So heres hoping not too much damage has been done.

My thoughts are with all the people in the South that are not used to this kind of cold.
I hope everyone is staying safe & warm.

  1. I've been thinking about you Sally...wondering how a cold snap will affect you down there- more logistically - do they have wood stoves or fireplaces if there is a power out. It must be a strange thing. Poor plants ! though some of those palms have a prehistoric genealogy , so perhaps they are tougher than they seem :)

  2. I'm feeling for your plants, Sally. I hope you were able to rescue some of them to bring inside. They are resilient creatures, though, trees and such. You must be so unprepared for this one. It's wreaking havoc everywhere -- sorry it had to come your way, too.

  3. sad to see the plants like that. We are all shivering across the nation. Today is a heat wave here in NJ at 32F!
Keep warm. Have a lovely weekend.

  4. Hi,Sally!
Your post remind me that I have some poor plants on my balcony, though I take care of them at times! They are heavy ones. I hope spring comes early, so they will survive and so will yours!!!
