You may remember quite some time back that I published a post about the street photographer
Viven Maier & her amazing story.
If you don't remember you can check it out here. If you have been as fascinated (or now find yourself as fascinated) as I have been, you will probably want to know about the film
Finding Viven Maier.
The film is a documentary tracing the life of Viven Maier & the remarkable discovery of this unknown photographers's astounding collection of work. It made its debut at the DOC NYC Festival in New York in 2013 & has made the rounds of other film festivals both nationally & internationally. Now at long last it will be opening in theaters in the US at the end of March.
I have been waiting with great anticipation for this film to come out & cannot wait to see it.
You can view a trailer below.
A list of play dates & locations has been listed on the Viven Maier Facebook page, where others will hopefully be added. I am posting it below, & it looks like Atlanta is the closest place for me to view it, unless I find myself back in Boston in April.
I checked out the post in which you featured her works and it's just incredible! Kudos to you for highlighting it in your blog, works like these are treasures and people like Viven an enigma. I am so glad to hear that her works have been preserved and a documentary will be out very soon. I hope the documentary lives up to your expectations.
ReplyDeleteI know I am aware that the film may not live up to my expectations but I guess just learning more about her amazing story will enough. Thanks for stoping by I appreciate your interest.
DeleteI probably won't get a chance to see the documentary but I think it's exciting when something you love comes to you. Hope you get a chance to see it. What city is closest to you?
ReplyDeleteI am thinking Atlanta is my closest location. I have family there so it could be a fun reason to visit.
DeleteThis is fun because there is an exhibition about Vivian Maier in my city (Tours) until June. I am going to visit it soon.
ReplyDeleteOh how exciting ,Elsa! Wish I could go with you.
DeleteThis, of course, will never come to my little town. But if we are very lucky PBS will pick it up for wider broadcast. Such amazing photography and the story behind it. How I'd love to see it on the big screen!
ReplyDeleteYes, it would be great to see it on PBS.
DeleteThank you Sally, I too love her works very much! That photographer and her film must be put in my list.
ReplyDeleteoh I love her- this looks good Thanks Sally for the tip!
ReplyDeleteI love her work very much too and find the whole story absolutely fascinating! I would love to watch the film. Thank you for this, and thank you for your kind comment on my blog! :-)
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see it but will have to pin my hopes on PBS also….doesn't look like it will be showing any where near me. I've seen a short program on her…..possibly on the Ovation Channel.
