Market Color

This summer we have had quite a few rainy Sundays. The rain does not seem to dampen spirits at the Sunday market, however. Umbrellas come out & shopping continues, albeit very hurriedly. But even on an overcast market day the vegetables are colorful & beautiful & oh so French!

Big beautiful grey green artichokes are piled high.

Bowles of bright olives are cured in every imagined flavor. It is hard to choose, & usually I find a mixture is best!

The humble radish, red with it's signature white tip, are so lovely to me. They are best served simply with a small bowl of salt for dipping.

The French melon is so sweet & delicious, a unique & special treat for Americans.

A big bowl of basil, fresh eggs & parsley pick up a little morning light peeking through.

While traditional baskets hold all the ingredients for ratatouille, zucchini, eggplant, peppers & tomatoes.....

....as well as lovely colorful onions.

Even on the rainiest of market days, bouquets of freshly picked flowers under a big yellow umbrella can add a bite of sunshine on an otherwise grey day.
